Lakers and Nets Agree on Trade; D’Angelo Russell to Brooklyn

The Lakers have traded away former 2nd overall pick D’Angelo Russell and center Timofey Mozgov to the Nets in exchange for Brooke Lopez and the 27th overall pick in this year’s draft. This move comes after Paul George is rumored to have expressed his desire to play for the Lakers to his current team, the Indiana Pacers. The trade has allowed the Lakers to ditch Mozgov’s awful contract and free up $22 million in cap space. With that amount of cap cleared the Lakers could now afford to take on Paul George’s contract and potentially sign another max contract next offseason. This was a smart move for both sides as the Nets receive a young and talented D’Angelo Russell and the Lakers receive a large amount of flexibility for the future. This move could be the beginning of the Lakers coming back to NBA superstardom, something the league has missed for too many seasons.
